Powerball breaks streak as jackpot holds, grows
Wednesday, October 4th, 2006For the first time in four draws, Powerball will keep its jackpot. No one was able to match all six numbers, resulting in a rise of its grand prize cache to $20 million from $15 million for Saturday’s draw (cash value of $9.7 million).
Leading the list this time out, however, are two more million dollar winners - made possible by matching five numbers while also playing Powerplay - multiplying the winnings by five. The same sequence without Powerplay garnered seven tickets $200,000 each. Other winners include six tickets hitting four numbers plus Powerball/Powerplay, good for $50,000 each, with another 29 hitting the same sequence without Powerplay - good for $10,000 each. All told, 416,589 winning tickets will share in more than $7.6 million.
Once again, the winning numbers from the Oct. 4 Powerball draw were 3, 7, 27, 39 and 40, with a Powerball of 8. The next draw will take place Oct. 7.
