College Poker Champion Crowned
The College Poker Championship has crowned the world’s best college player. Ryan R. a student and campus rep from the University of Ottawa (Canada) outlasted 33,000 opponents to claim the title and a $50,000 scholarship. The event concluded on May 21st and included players from around the world and a $125,000 scholarship prize pool.
This was the third College Poker Championship and is a unique event. It is free to enter and only offers education-based prizes. As far as the play goes, it is a series of online Texas Hold’em tournaments that are only available to registered college students.ÂÂ
Personally speaking it is good to see an event that does not reinforce the stereotype of the fat old degenerate gambler. Ryan R. and the other top ten finalists also donated $1,000 each to the charity of their choice. Ryan made his donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada. All in all this is a great event that all college poker players should consider getting involved with.
