The World Poker Tour is continuing to aggressively promote their brand. The latest instalment of this promotional campaign is a joint venture with Foxwoods Resort & Casino. When Foxwoods opens up a new poker room in March, it will have the World Poker Tour name attached to it. This venture will make Foxwoods the first casino to carry the WPT name.

Foxwoods hosts two major WPT tournaments, which air on the Travel Channel. According to director of poker operations, Kathy Raymond “it makes sense for the two giants in the industry to come together and do something.

The popular question remains what will this partnership mean for average poker players. For starters, the number of tables will be expanded from 76 tables to 114. In addition new technology will be utilized, for example automatic shufflers will be used and beepers will be handed out to those on the various wait lists. These changes will help in part, to allow Foxwoods to host tournaments seven days a week, which hitherto they have not been able to do.

Steve Lipscomb, the CEO of World Poker tour Enterprises outlined the various facets of the new poker room and added that “it [the poker room] is supposed to look and feel like the tournaments the show televises. He also added that this is likely only the first such cross promotion with a major casino and that other top casinos have been selected as targets.
