Louisiana Casinos Experiencing A Post-Katrina Boom

Harrah’s has big plans for its Louisiana Operations
While four gambling venues remain closed because of extensive hurricane damage, Louisiana’s casino revenues are rising rapidly. State-licensed casinos revenues improved substantially in November and December compared to 2004 figures.
Business analysts cite the closure of much of the storm-damaged Mississippi Gulf Coast casino market, out of state recovery workers and federal storm relief money as largely responsible for the increase.
Harrah’s Entertainment’s downtown casino in New Orleans and the company’s two riverboat casinos in Lake Charles remained shuttered in November, along with the Belle of Orleans riverboat in New Orleans. Harrah’s has also stated that it plans to reinvest a great deal of money into its Louisiana operations.
